description of KEIRO-Pilatus PC-24

KEIRO-Pilatus PC-24 is a scale replica in wood of the famous versatile jet PC-24, sold by Swiss airplane manufacturer Pilatus Flugzeugwerke . Maiden flight of the first prototype was in 2017, and delivery to clients all over the world started in 2018

I tried to keep the model as scale as possible by using drawings of the original PC-24 and numerous pictures and videos. The model was completely designed in 3D-CAD. Milling programs for all parts are directly derived from 3D-CAD, what guarantees a perfect fit and accuracy.

Fliying caracteristics of the KEIRO-Pilatus PC-24 are very good, thanks to light weight construction, good airfoil choice, perfect dihedral and wingtwist.

Flaps and a sturdy gear design with double wheel on main gear, give good handling for take-off and landing, even on grass surfaces.

building the KEIRO-Pilatus PC-24:
- The fuselage has a box-like inner structure of poplar plywood. All parts are self aligning by grooves and tongues. The center part of the wing with main gear supports is fixed to this inner structure. Nose gear, nacelle fixations and rudder are also parts of the inner structures. Outer shape of the fuselage is given by lightweight formers that are glued the outer side of the inner structure. The whole fuselage is planked with 2mm balsa wood. A big lid on the upper side of the fuselage allows good acces to all parts inside the fuse.
- The wing halfes are built in conventional rib-structure and are fully planked. All ribs have feet to guarantee a distortion-free wing with correct twist. Flaps and ailerons are cut out after having planked and fine-shaped the wing for best airfoil accuracy. Wings are connected to the fuselage by sturdy aluminium-tubes.
- The elevator is also fully-planked rib design. The upmost portion of the rudder ist part of the elevator. Connection to the fuselage with perpendicular aluminium-tube and screw.
- The nacelles consist of a wood-structure planked with balsa wood. Thrust-tube and inlet-tube are fiberglass parts. Connection of nacelles with fuselage by aluminium-tubes.
Legs of the main gear consist of milled fiberglass-plates to be bonded.

From serial number 22 (April 2020) on, some enhancements are included:
- jig for use when planking the upper side of the wing included.
- inlet-lib, inlet tube and thrust tube included as 3d-printed parts.
- milled parts and springs for main gear legs included.
- material for cockpit windows is included.
